Polycarbonate – Not as Strong as you Might Think

Most roofers will know that polycarbonate rooflights are not the strongest. Don’t get us wrong, they’re waterproof and wind resistant, but if you step on top of one you’re guaranteed to break the surface, and perhaps fall through to the room below.

This is why it’s so important to make sure you have your wits about you whenever you’re carrying out work on a rooflight littered with polycarbonate skylights or dome lights. Polycarbonate can shatter remarkably easily, and you’re almost always guaranteed more durability with glass.

You’d never get a walk on polycarbonate rooflights because they simply do not exist, and whist polycarbonate can look strong and durable, they can’t withstand a large weight load, so make sure you always work carefully.
